Frankfort's Official Population Tops 16,000

Last November the village partnered with the U.S. Census Bureau to update its officially recognized population of 12,950, last established in 2004. Areas of high growth were identified and residents from these areas participated in a new count. The U.S. Census Bureau reports that as of November 1, 2008, 5,588 people resided in 1,973 housing units in the 2007 Special Census area. Frankfort's official population is now 16,492, increasing the total population by 3,542 residents (+27.4%, or roughly 6.25%/year since 2004).

Frankfort will receive an increased allocation of state funding until the 2010 Census is certified in 2011. State shared municipal revenue for fiscal year 2008 was estimated at $130.75 per capita. Based on the official results, Frankfort anticipates a total revenue increase of $1,389,000 over the next three years. Although final figures are not available, Frankfort's return on investment for the Special Census is expected to exceed 400% per year over a four year period!
